It’s Trash Palace summer edition. Sure it’s the end of summer and already getting dark at 7pm. But better late than never.
Anyhoo, this one is a tribute to two we lost this month, Dolly Parton and Tim Curry. Unfortunately, these two never made a movie together. And Tim didn’t make a movie that seemed bad enough to show (I mean, I’m not sure anyone would want to sit through McCale’s Navy, even trash fans). So we’re going with a Dolly film.
From Bob Clark, the director of the classics Black Christmas and A Christmas Story, comes a movie unlike either of those—Rhinestone. Seemingly intended as a comedy-musical, it fails pretty completely on both counts. There’s comedy and there’s singing, sure. There’s even dancing. But largely not by the people you’d want to see doing it.
It’s from 1984 and is written by and stars Sylvester Something-or-other. But he didn’t do much outside this film, so why even bring it up? (ahem)
We’ll also show a couple of Tim Curry videos to start things off.
Again we’ll be screening at Soft Canyon, an underground (literally) location in Friedrichshain. It’s limited seating at this place, so an RSVP is essential.
Send the RSVP to trashpalaceberlin@gmail.com—there is a 30 minute window when the doors will be open (see below). Same day requests are possible if seating allows. Exact address will be sent to you after the RSVP—it’s near Samariterstr Ubahn.
Drinks available for reasonable prices at the bar.
